Center for Creative Leadership experience

Last Tuesday through Friday I had the privilege to travel with colleagues from Virginia and New York to Greensboro, North Carolina to participate in the Multi District Leadership Iniative (MDLI) at the campus of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). Founded in the '70's, CCL's purpose is to research leadership and help develop leadership - since it cannot be created.

The experience was wonderful in virtually every aspect. The power of the conference, though, was creating a process and arena for self reflection. Who am I as a person? What are my values? What made me the person I am today?  How does who I am relate to how I do my job? Taking the time to think upon and answer these questions was precious and powerful - and I will be sharing my thoughts on these in other spaces on this site in the future.

Sharing this discovery process with others in similar places and seeing the diverse backgrounds and current placments of those colleagues was intriguing. The charge I received from this analysis was needed and has added even more of an incentive to put more of my thoughts down on this site, to help me to focus and be a better leader.

I will use this opportunity I was given to see myself in a different way to improve as a leader so I may benefit my family, church, school, county, state, and country.

Oneof my favorite quotes about Leadership is from Lao Tse: When the effective leader is finished with his work, the people say it happened naturally.
